This fluid leakage results in reduced pressure application to the internal transmission friction elements, which allows them to slip. Slippage of the friction elements can cause premature deterioration of the friction element surfaces and may cause the vehicle not to accelerate, or not to accelerate as expected, when the driver presses the accelerator pedal.
