Over time, and with substantial additional use, this impact-triggered enlargement of the hole allows the ball joint and knuckle interface to wear, resulting in a looseness and possible clunking noise during vehicle operation. If allowed to continue, this looseness can eventually lead to separation of the ball joint from the knuckle, creating the potential for an accident resulting in injury or death.
