EVs & charging in Switzerland
EV adoption is solid and rising. Public charging uses Type 2 (AC) and CCS (DC), with rapid chargers along motorways and at service areas (MOVE, GOFAST, Ionity, Tesla). Homeowners install wallboxes; apartment charging can be the main hurdle.
Costs, taxes & the vignette
Fuel is mid-to-high priced and electricity is reliable but not cheap. Vehicle taxes are set by canton, and some cantons offer EV discounts — check locally. Motorway use requires an annual vignette sticker.
Buying & owning a car in Switzerland
Cars drive on the right. A periodic roadworthiness inspection (Motorfahrzeugkontrolle) is required at cantonal intervals, and winter tyres are strongly advised for Alpine driving.
