EVs & charging in the UK

The UK has one of Europe's densest charging networks, including thousands of on-street and lamppost chargers for homes without a driveway. Public charging uses Type 2 for AC and CCS for rapid charging, via networks such as bp pulse, Pod Point, InstaVolt, Gridserve and Tesla; contactless card payment is increasingly standard on rapid units.

Costs, taxes & clean-air zones

Fuel is expensive, so efficiency matters. Vehicle Excise Duty and company-car Benefit-in-Kind rates have favoured low- and zero-emission cars, though rules change — check current rates. Several cities run clean-air zones; in London's ULEZ, fully electric cars are exempt from the daily charge.

Buying & owning a car in the UK

Cars drive on the left, and any car over three years old needs an annual MOT. Most new cars are bought on PCP finance, and the used market is large and well-documented — check a car's MOT history and confirm it isn't on outstanding finance or recorded as written off.
