How to use it well
The electricity price you enter decides everything. Charging at home on a night tariff is where EV savings are dramatic; relying only on public ultra-rapid chargers can erase them. If you’ll mix both, enter a weighted average (e.g. 80% home + 20% public). For fuel cars, use your real consumption – the window-sticker figure is usually 10–20% optimistic.
Beyond energy: the rest of the math
Energy is only one line of total cost of ownership. EVs typically save 30–50% on servicing (no oil changes, no exhaust, regenerative braking spares the pads), and many countries discount road tax for EVs – but purchase price, insurance and depreciation differ by market. What consumption should I enter for a hybrid?
Use the hybrid’s real-world L/100km as the “fuel” side – the comparison then shows what a full EV would change.
Why per 100 km and not mpg?
Cost per distance works identically in every country and makes the fuel-vs-electric comparison direct. If you think in miles: 100 km ≈ 62 miles.
