On certain side loader refuse collection vehicles equiped with Python lifts, and subject to very high usage and corresponding high duty cycles, carbon can build up on the contacts of the internal Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) output relays which control the grab-close and lift-raise functions. Carbon can build-up to the point where the grab-close and/or lift-raise circuits may be completed inadvertently. This could cause the arm to lift or grab without operator inputs, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a retrofit kit.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2011025.
