CarsMultiverse is an independent website, not a safety authority. What follows is how to use and cite what we hold; the official notice always comes from the authority that issued it.
Every major authority publishes vehicle recalls. Almost none of them keeps what a recall said before it was rewritten. When a manufacturer revises a remedy, or the number of affected cars moves, the authority replaces the text in place. The earlier wording is gone, and with it any way to show that it changed.
This site keeps the earlier version, with the date each was read. That is the whole idea, and it is the only thing here that cannot be got anywhere else.
What we hold, right now
Seven national registers, held as pages, every notice carrying the date it was read and a fingerprint of its wording, so a later rewrite can be shown rather than asserted:

Alongside them: 21 studies computed from that record rather than from a press release; a dictionary of 29 terms the registers use without explaining; 171 American notices filed in the last three years where the sixty days the law allows for writing to owners have passed and no letter is on record.
Every figure in this section is counted from the record when the page is rebuilt. None of it is typed in, which is the only way a page like this stays true.
Three things you can take
- The change register: every amendment we have observed, each row with its own permanent link.
- Machine-readable feeds: the change log as JSON, an RSS feed, and the wording revisions with the earlier text. No key, no sign-up, CORS open.

How to cite this
This is a live dataset. A citation needs the date you read it, not just a URL: the same entry may read differently in a month, which is the entire point.

When citing a specific amendment, quote the campaign number and the observation date, so anyone can check the authority’s current record against what it said when we read it.
What we will not claim
- We do not claim a recall is unsafe, mishandled, or evidence of anything. We record that the text changed, and when.
- We do not hold wording from before the day we started reading a source. Those dates are published per source, and the register says so where it applies.
- We do not cover markets we cannot see. The map names them rather than quietly omitting them.
- Recall wording belongs to the issuing authority. The dated comparison between versions is ours.
When we are wrong
We publish our own errors, dated, on the corrections page: what was wrong, how we found it, and what changed. It currently runs to ten entries, several of them our own mistakes found by counting rows against the sentence above them. A register of what other people quietly changed is worth nothing if we quietly change our own.

Before you cite a number from this site, check it is current. The status page reports when every study here last rebuilt and whether the government register it depends on was answering. It is also available as JSON at /wp-json/cmvst/v1/status, so you can monitor it without asking us.

Citing the archive
If you need something you can hold up in print, use the dated wording manifest: one SHA-256 per campaign, with the date it was read. Download it now and any rewrite we report later is checkable against a number you already had, rather than against our own copy of the earlier text.
Proof of custody. Once a day we fold the fingerprint of every notice we hold into a single number and publish it, so you can show that the wording we quote is the wording we held on the day we say we held it. The seals, and how to check one yourself, are at Proof this record has not been edited.
