Every claim on this site rests on one thing: that the copy we kept of a recall notice is the copy we read on the day we say we read it. You have only our word for that. This page removes the need for our word.
Once a day we take the fingerprint of every notice we hold, put them in order by campaign number, and fold them together into a single number. That number is the seal for the day, and we publish it here the moment it is made. It is 64 characters long and it depends on every one of the notices behind it.
The seal cannot be quietly recomputed later. If we edited one word of one notice after the fact, its fingerprint would change, and the seal we had already published would no longer be reachable from it. The seal for a past day is a claim about that day, fixed on that day, in public.

Checking one notice yourself
Ask the site for the audit path of any campaign we hold:
curl https://carsmultiverse.com/wp-json/cmvseal/v1/proof?campaign=25V101You get back the fingerprint of that notice, its position among the notices sealed that day, and a short list of sibling fingerprints. Fold them together in the order and on the side given, and you arrive at the seal we published. Eleven steps is typical, because folding halves the list each time: fourteen hundred notices are eleven foldings from the top.
Nothing about this needs us. The rule is written out in full at /wp-json/cmvseal/v1/index, and it is ordinary SHA-256, the same function that secures the connection you are reading this over. Two implementations, ours in PHP and yours in whatever you like, must agree or the seal is wrong.
What it does not claim
The seal proves what we held, not what the authority published. If a regulator edits a notice, the seal is what lets us show you both versions and prove neither was touched by us afterwards. It is a record of our custody, not of their intent.
It also starts when it starts. Notices sealed from today are covered from today. We do not backdate, and there is no seal for a day before the first one on this page.
