THE INSTALLATION OF THE STEERING ARM PINCH BOLT ON THESE VEHICLES MAY BE DEFECTIVE. IF THIS BOLT FAILS OR LOOSENS, AND COMES OUT, THE PITMAN ARM MAY SEPARATE FROM THE STEERING GEAR, CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHICH MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CORRECTION: VEHICLES WILL BE INSPECTED AND A NEW BOLT, LOCKNUT AND WASHERS WILL BE INSTALLED IF NECESSARY.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1989138.
