1978-1985 S SERIES 1600-1900 TRUCKS AND BUSES. rnTHE STEERING ARM OF MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 10,800 OR 12,000 LB. CAPACITY FRONT AXLES AND ROSS POWER STEERING MAY CRACK AS THE RESULT OF REPEATED FUEL LOCK TURNS. DUE TO THE LACK OF END-OF-TRAVEL RELIEF FEATURES, THE STEERING GEAR CONTINUES TO POWER THE STEERING LINKAGE AFTER IT IS RESTRAINED BY THE AXLE STOP BOLT, RESULTING IN BENDING OF THE STEERING ARM AND EVENTUAL CRACK INITIATION. IF THESE CRACKS PROPOGATE TO COMPLETE FRACTURE OF THE ARM, LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL COULD OCCUR POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1985041.
