On certain trucks, the hubs may crack in the barrel section between the inner and outer bearings leading to a hub separation. A separated hub would be held on the axle spindle by the wheel bearing adjusting nut. Continued operation could lead to a tire failure or the hub, wheel and tire could disengage from the vehicle causing a loss of control.
