THIS VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH DRIVE AXLE INNER WHEEL NUTS DESIGNED TO ACCEPT FORGED ALUMINUM WHEELS. THESE NUTS HAVE A MALE THREAD WHICH EXTENDS ONLY HALFWAY DOWN TO THE MOUNTING FLANGE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS ADEQUATE WHEN THE OUTER WHEEL IS MADE OF ALUMINUM, THERE WJOULD NOT BE SUFFICIENT THREAD ENGAGEMENT SHOULD A STANDARD STEEL SPARE WHEEL BE INSTALLED. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF OUTER WHEEL WITHOUT WARNING, POTENTIALLY CAUSING INJURY TO PERSONS OR PROPERTY DAMAGE BY THE RUNAWAY WHEEL.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1983045.
