On certain travel trailers, the safety chains on the A frame may be an incorrect size. The units require safety chains rated for 11,700 lbs, but were incorrectly outfitted with safety chains rated for 7,600 lbs. This could possibly result in the weight of the travel trailer breaking the weaker chains, which could allow the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle, possibly striking another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will remove the incorrect safety chains and replace them with the correct 11,700 lbs safety chains.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2017546.
