On certain scooters, the engine connecting rod could crack or break because of an improper heat treatment of the metal. Should this occur, the engine would immediately stop running. A loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will disassemble the affected engine and replace the crankshaft assembly with one that has a properly heat-treated connecting rod.
