On certain vehicles, the piston pin circlip may have been improperly installed into the piston groove during assembly. If the circlip is not properly installed, over the course of engine operation, the piston pin will rub against the cylinder wall causing noise and damage, which could result in an engine failure and the engine stalling. Engine stalling would result in a loss of motive power; an engine failure would result in a sudden loss of motive power. These potential outcomes in conjunction with the rider's reactions could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the piston set.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2016381.
