Certain vehicles may fail to conform to the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 121 - Air Brake Systems and CMVSS 136 - Electronic Stability Control Systems for Heavy Vehicles. When the ignition is cycled off and then on within a few seconds, the Instrument Control Unit (ICU) may not perform the indicator lamp check as required by the standards. This could potentially confuse an inspector who may believe that the ABS or ESC is not functioning correctly should the ignition be cycled too quickly from on-to-off-to-on during a vehicle inspection. Correction: Daimler Trucks of North America Service Facilities will reprogram the ICU. For vehicles with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, the Electronic Control Unit will also be replaced.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2018387.
