Defect, as DVSA words it

Due to an insufficiently sealed cable shoe moisture can rise within the cable and in unfavourable cases reach the 12 V connector to the DC/DC converter. This can lead to corrosion on the electrical contacts and as a result to increased contact resistance. The increased electrical resistance can cause the connector to heat up. In rare individual cases the heat generated may affect adjacent components.
