What the notice says today
The issue
On certain RV trailers equipped with a certain power center, a software problem in the solar controller could allow the controller to overload the 12V electrical system. If this happens, the power center could short circuit and overheat. This could also cause the trailer brakes and exterior lights not to work.
The safety risk
A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Trailer lights that don't work could make the vehicle less visible and cause following drivers not to recognize that the vehicle is braking or intends to turn or change lanes. These issues could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a loss of trailer brakes could increase the risk of a crash.
What will be done
To reduce the safety risk, Grand Design RV advises you to disable the solar power using the solar disconnect switch. Grand Design RV will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update for the solar controller. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Grand Design RV dealership.

Problème : Sur certaines caravanes équipées d'un certain panneau électrique, un problème de logiciel dans le régulateur solaire pourrait entraîner une surcharge du système électrique 12 V. Si cela se produisait, le panneau électrique pourrait subir un court-circuit et surchauffer. Cela pourrait également faire en sorte que les freins et les feux extérieurs de la caravane ne fonctionnent pas. Risques pour la sécurité : Un court-circuit peut créer un risque d'incendie. Des feux de caravane qui ne fonctionnent pas pourraient rendre le véhicule moins visible et empêcher les conducteurs qui suivent de se rendre compte que le véhicule freine ou qu'il s'apprête à tourner ou à changer de voie. Ces problèmes pourraient augmenter le risque d'accident. De plus, une perte de freinage de la caravane pourrait accroître le risque d'accident. Mesures correctives : Pour réduire les risques pour la sécurité, Grand Design RV recommande aux propriétaires de désactiver l'alimentation solaire à l'aide du disjoncteur solaire. Grand Design RV doit aviser les propriétaires par la poste et envoyer une mise à jour du logiciel par transmission sans fil pour le régulateur solaire. Les propriétaires peuvent également prendre rendez-vous chez un concessionnaire Grand Design RV pour faire effectuer la mise à jour.
