THE COUPLING CONNECTING THE POWER STEERING PUMP TO THE HYDRAULIC PISTON PUMP WHICH DRIVES IT MAY BE MISSING THE COUPLING RETAINER CLIPS. WITHOUT THESE CLIPS THE COUPLING IS FREE TO MOVE FROM SIDE TO SIDE. EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF THE COUPLING TOWARDS THE POWER STEERING PUMP WILL DISENGAGE THE TWO PUMP SHAFTS RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST.rnTHE EXTRA EFFORT REQUIRED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL COULD RESULT IN A DELAY IN STEERING RESPONSE AND PROVIDE THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE CRASH. CORRECTION: COUPLINGS WITHOUT RETAINER CLIPS WILL BE REPLACED.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1998156.
