Certain DaimlerChrysler SLF (super low floor) transit buses do not comply with the requirements of CMVSS 217. The striker plate at the bottom of the Hehr emergency pushout windows can wear a groove into the emergency release bolt. If this groove becomes deep enough, the emergency pushout window may fail to open as intended when released, thus potentially trapping passengers or at least delaying their escape. Correction: Hehr International will notify owners of the non-compliance and will provide a remedy on behalf of DaimlerChrysler Commercial Buses North America.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2005042.
