On certain vehicles, the rear drive axle spindles were overheated during fabrication's heat treatment process. Such a condition compromises the overall structural integrity of the spindle, and therefore could result in a fracture of the spindle. If a spindle fractures while the vehicle is in motion, it may cause wheel separation, which could lead to a loss of vehicle control and a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the spindle for suspect heat codes and replace the axle if necessary.
