On certain vehicles, the wiring that connects the steering column rotary coupler (clockspring) to the driver's airbag module may fracture as a result of relative motion between the clockspring and the steering wheel hub. This may result in the deployment of only one stage of the dual stage airbag during a vehicle crash of sufficient severity, or cause the airbag to not deploy at all. Should the airbag module fail to deploy in the intended manner, it could increase the driver's risk of injury or death. Correction: Dealers will insert alignment spacers into specific areas of the steering column.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2008193.
