On certain vehicles, a faulty taillight seal can allow water to enter the rear compartment containing the spare tire. On vehicles equipped with the optional power liftgate, the control unit for the liftgate is located close to the spare tire compartment. Water contamination of the control unit can eventually disable the power liftgate motor. It could also cause an electrical short circuit, which could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the taillight seal and reposition the power liftgate control unit.
