On certain trucks, the fastener that attaches the pitman arm to the right side steering gear may not have received adequate tightening torque during vehicle assembly. Also, the fastener that attaches the pitman arm to the drag link may not have been secured using a cotter pin, as intended. Should a fastener loosen, the pitman arm may separate from the steering gear or the drag link, which would result in a loss of steering capability. A loss of steering control could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, tighten the fastener or replace the pitman arm.
