On certain 4800 4x4 vehicles, the front propeller shaft may have been replaced with one having a double cardan joint at each end as part of a previous recall. The centering ball and socket of the double cardan joint may sieze, which could cause the driveshaft to break apart, and under certain conditions, potentially causing axle lockup and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will install front driveshaft guards at both ends of the shaft, install lockout front wheel hubs, and replace any drive shaft found with loose or binding double cardan joints at either end.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2014370.
