Transport Canada carries this recall as 2014421, dated 30 September 2014. The American register carries the same defect as campaign 14V596, dated 26 September 2014. They are the same defect because the manufacturer filed both under one internal campaign code, V1403.

The two registers are 4 days apart: the American entry is dated first, the Canadian one second.

These are the dates each register records against its own notice. They are separate administrative acts in two countries, recorded by two authorities under two sets of rules, and this page does not claim that one caused the other or that owners in either country were contacted on those days. What it shows is that the same manufacturer campaign reached the two registers on different dates.

Read the American notice 14V596, including every earlier version of its wording this site holds. The Canadian register explains why the manufacturer code is published there and what that makes possible. Canada and America sets every matched pair side by side.

Certain motorcycles may have been manufactured with the transmission shift drum detent roller spring installed incorrectly, and could fail to provide spring tension onto the roller assembly/shift drum. If this were to occur, there would be no shift drum detent. This could cause unintended gear shifts or return to neutral, which could result in a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect and repair if necessary.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2014421.
