Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The parking lamps are designed to operate at a higher light intensity to provide the required Daytime Running Lights (DRL) function. When the headlamps are activated, the parking lamp light intensity does not reduce from DRL intensity to parking lamp intensity as intended. The higher light intensity may adversely affect the vision of oncoming drivers during low light and night time conditions, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2015179.
