On certain vehicles, the Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM), which controls the airbag system, may not shut down correctly when the vehicle is turned off. If this happens, the SDM may not work when the vehicle is started, making it unable to detect a crash or deploy the airbags, and increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the SDM with updated software to correct this problem. Note: If the SDM is inoperative when the vehicle is started, the airbag warning lamp would illuminate, a u201cservice restraint systemu201d message would be displayed and warning chimes would sound.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2018279.
