Issue: rnOn certain emergency vehicles, there may be a defect in the rear axle drive pinion that could cause it to break. If this happens, the air brake line could be damaged and cause the parking brakes to apply suddenly. rnNote: This recall only affects emergency vehicles equipped with certain 180-series Meritor axles. rnrnSafety Risk: rnA parking brake that self-applies while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, if a following driver does not recognize when a vehicle ahead is braking, there could also be an increased risk of a crash. rnrnCorrective Actions: rnSpartan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a dealership or repair facility, who must contact Meritor's Technical Call Center to verify if the truck is affected by this campaign. The differential carrier assembly will be replaced, if necessary.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2021737.
