VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH POWER STEERING. THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT COUPLING POT JOINT MAY HAVE BEEN MACHINED OVERSIZE IN THE SERRATION AREA WHERE THE JOINT ATTACHES TO THE STEERING GEAR SHAFT. THIS CONDITION MAY HAVE PREVENTED PROPER TIGHTENING OF THE COUPLING AND MAY ALLOW THE COUPLING TO SLIP WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. THE DRIVER WOULD BE ALERTED BY A RASPING NOISE AND EXCESSIVE WHEEL PLAY. FAILURE TO HEED THE WARNING MAY RESULT IN SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.
