THE NUTS WHICH FASTEN THE TAPERED TIE ROD ENDS TO THE STEERING ARM MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO THE SPECIFIED TORQUE. THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE NUTS TO PROGRESSIVELY LOOSEN, BREAK OFF THE LOCKING COTTER PIN AND ALLOW THE TIE ROD TO DISENGAGE FROM THE STEERING ARM.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1981042.
