VEHICLES WITH NON-TILT STEERING COLUMNS. VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN PRODUCED WITH AN INCORRECT INSULATOR INSTALLED IN THE STEERING COLUMN SHIFT CANE LEVER. THE INSULATOR IS USED TO CONNECT THE TRTANSMISSIONS SHIFT LINKAGE TO THE SHIFT LEVER. IF THE SHIFT LINKAGE WERE TO DISENGAGE FROM THE SHIFT LEVER, THE OPERATOR COULD NOT SELECT TRANSMISSION FUNCTIONS. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD THEN REMAIN ENGAGED IN THE LAST GEAR SELECTED BEFORE SEPARATION EVEN THOUGH THE GEAR SELECTOR HAD BEEN MOVED TO A POSITION ASSOCIATED WITH ANOTHER FUNCTION.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1982084.
