THE REAR CONTROL ARM BRACKET ATTACHING BOLTS USED ON CERTAIN OF THESE VEHICLES MAY FRACTURE. FAILURE OF ALL FOUR BOLTS ON ONE SIDE CAN RESULT IN THE CONTROL ARM DROPPING ENOUGH TO CUT THE REAR BRAKE HOSE. SUCH A CUT WOULD RESULT IN FLUID LOSS AND PARTIAL LOSS OF BRAKING ACTION. THIS WOULD CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES AND SHOULD A FAILURE OCCUR WHILE TRHE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT A TIME WHEN MINIMAL STOPPING DISTANCES ARE REQUIRED, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD RESULT.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1984151.

Reading this against the source

This page is what Transport Canada published in the Vehicle Recalls Database, kept as it was read. The authority publishes only its current wording; if a notice is rewritten, the earlier version disappears there and is kept here. The whole register is at /canada, and how the reading is done is set out in the method.

What the words on this notice mean — the system it is filed under, and what the filing type says about who found the fault.

This register keeps an index of its own for every maker and every year it holds: Canadian recalls on a Buick: 326 in the register, and 160 Canadian vehicle recalls filed in 1984.
