THE MIDLAND BRAKE VALVES INSTALLED ON THESE UNITS MAY EXPERIENCE HYDROGEN ENBRITTLEMENT AND POSSIBLE FRACTURING OF THE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE VALVE SECTIONS TOGETHER RESULTING IN LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE. LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE COULD CAUSE FULL OF PARTIAL LOSS OF SERVICE BRAKES, INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES AND POSSIBLE APPLICATION OF THE TRAILER SPRING BRAKES. APPLICATION OF THE EMERGENCY SPRING BRAKES COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL. CORRECTION: TRAILERS WILL BE INSPECTED AND VALVES WITH SUSPECT DATE CODES WILL BE REPLACED.

Transport Canada recorded this notice in capitals, as its system did for many years. It is reproduced here exactly as published.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1989055.
