On certain trucks, residual stress on the Electronic Control Module (ECM) ground terminal may be sufficient to cause the terminal to crack and eventually fail. If this terminal fails the engine will stop and will not re-start. Sudden stopping of the engine without warning may compromise the safety of the vehicle occupants due to the sudden loss of power steering assist. Correction: Terminals will be inspected and replaced if cracked or broken. Tie wrap closest to the terminal will be removed so that there is no stress on the ground wire.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1994198.
