A PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN UPPER UNIVERSAL JOINT MAY HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. IF EXPOSED TO HIGH FORCES, SUCH AS FROM SINGLE SIDE CURB CONTACT, THE DEFECTIVE PART OF THE UNIVERSAL JOINT MAY DEVELOP EXCESSIVE TOLERANCES. THIS MAY RESULT IN NOISE AND FREE PLAY IN THE STEERING SYSTEM. IF UNCORRECTED, THE PART MAY FURTHER DETERIORATE AND EVENTUALLY RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.rnCORRECTION: UNIVERSAL JOINT WILL BE INSPECTED FOR CRACKS AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1996120.
