THE TUBE PORTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN HAS A WELDED END WHICH IS 3.5 INCHES LONG INSTEAD OF THE SPECIFIED 5.5 INCHES. WITH THE SHORTER END IT IS POSSIBLE THERE IS INSUFFICIENT ENGAGEMENT OF THE MALE END INTO THE TUBE PORTION AND SEPARATION OF THE COLUMN COULD OCCUR. THIS WOULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A POSSIBLE VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.rnCORRECTION: INCORRECTLY BUILT STEERING COLUMNS WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW STEERING COLUMN.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1996132.
