THE LOW PRESSURE POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE MAY EITHER BURST OR BLOW OFF DUE TO INCREASED FLUID VISCOSITY IN FRIGID TEMPERATURE. THIS WOULD RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST AND ALSO A REDUCTION IN POWER ASSIST TO THE BRAKES ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HYDRAULIC BRAKES.rnCORRECTION: HOSE WILL BE REPLACED WITH ONE THAT CAN TOLERATE HIGHER PRESSURES. IMPROVED CLAMPS WILL BE USED AND POWER STEERING FLUID WILL BE REPLACED WITH FLUID THAT IS LESS VISCOUS IN FRIGID TEMPERATURES.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1997066.
