On certain vehicles, the automatic slack adjuster may not have had sufficient torque applied to the guide pawl cap screw. This condition may cause the brakes to gradually lose adjustment. This could result in loss of brake effectiveness and increased stopping distances which could in turn result in a vehicle crash. Correction: The torque will be checked on the automatic slack adjuster guide pawl. If there is no torque, the brakes will be adjusted and the guide pawl cap screw will be tightened to 15-20 ft. lbs.
