On certain vehicles, improper spot weld positioning of the cross member filler plate reduces clearance between the wheel and the front frame cross member. This can result in the tire rubbing the metal frame, causing loss of tire tread, overheating and possible tire failure. This can in turn result in loss of proper towing of the trailer or loss of tow vehicle maneuvering, creating the potential for a vehicle crash. Correction: Trailers will be inspected and if the condition exists, the tires will be removed and the metal filler plate will be cut down to maintain adequate clearance between the tire and front frame cross member.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1999082.
