On certain vehicles, the door latch pawl has a coating which will swell in high humidity conditions. In some cases, the latch pawl may stick in the open or unattached position due to this swelling. If this occurs, the door may not latch when it is closed and in some cases the door may appear to close but the latch may not be engaged. If the vehicle is driven in this condition, it could potentially result in the door opening while the vehicle is in motion. Correction: Revised side door latches will be installed on affected vehicles.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 1999157.
