On certain vehicles, the front axle wheel bearing nut adjustment and retention assembly may (1) restrict complete lubrication fill at assembly and/or (2) shear the spindle nut pack washer's locking tab when tightened. If the washer tab is sheared, tightening of the outer spindle nut may cause the bearings to be excessively preloaded. This could result in premature bearing failure. Correction: Front axles will be fitted with (1) a redesigned bendable lock washer that facilitates lubrication fill, (2) a redesigned perforated washer that will not shear when the spindle nuts are tightened and, (3) new bearings, seals, etc.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2000173.
