On certain vehicles, the engine electrical harness can chafe against sharp edges on the engine. There are a number of different failures that could occur as many functions of the vehicle are processed through this harness. The modes of failure that could occur without warning, that may affect highway safety are: sudden acceleration, activation of engine compression brake, alternator overload and possible fire, engine speed dropping to idle, and loss of engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) power resulting in engine shutdown. Correction: Dealers will inspect, repair and relocate the engine harness.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2004209.
