On certain vehicles, only 8 bolts were installed in the brake group during axle build up. The brake group, an assembly that includes the brake shoes, springs, air chambers, slack adjusters, and spider, is normally attached to an axle housing with 9 bolts. A failure of the brake group connection to the axle may result in a sudden loss of braking ability. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if missing, install the 9th bolt and re-torque the entire assembly.
