On certain vehicles, the steer angle sensor -- a component of the electronic stability control (ESC) system -- can fail. This could cause the ESC system to misinterpret data from the yaw rate sensor and the lateral accelerometer as a directional instability requiring intervention by brake activation of a selected wheel. This could occur during low speed turning manoeuvres. Unexpected brake application could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the steer angle sensor.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2009154.
