Certain school buses fail to conform to the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 217 u2013 Bus Window Retention, Release and Emergency Exits. The split sash emergency egress windows may have an improperly installed retainer bar, insufficient strength of the window latch connecting rod, and/or missing or failed window fasteners. In the event of an emergency, passengers may not be able to quickly exit the bus, which could increase the risk of personal injuries. Also, if all the fasteners on a single retaining bar failed, the window could separate from the vehicle and strike another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, modify window installation.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2012238.
