On certain vehicles, manufacturing defects could cause internal shorts or current leaks to develop within battery cells, which could result in reduced voltage, the illumination of the EV system warning lamp and a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Electrical shorts could also result in thermal damage to battery cells and surrounding components, increasing the risk of a fire. Both these issues could cause personal injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace affected batteries.
The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2013194.
