Transport Canada carries this recall as 2016420, dated 30 August 2016. The American register carries the same defect as campaign 16V471, dated 27 June 2016. They are the same defect because the manufacturer filed both under one internal campaign code, 0169.

The two registers are 64 days apart: the American entry is dated first, the Canadian one second.

These are the dates each register records against its own notice. They are separate administrative acts in two countries, recorded by two authorities under two sets of rules, and this page does not claim that one caused the other or that owners in either country were contacted on those days. What it shows is that the same manufacturer campaign reached the two registers on different dates.

Read the American notice 16V471, including every earlier version of its wording this site holds. The Canadian register explains why the manufacturer code is published there and what that makes possible. Canada and America sets every matched pair side by side.

On certain motorcycles equipped with a black-coloured clutch master cylinder, the hydraulic clutch system may not be able to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch after being parked for an extended period of time. If this occurs, the driver could lose control of the motorcycle at start up if it is left in gear or when it is first shifted into gear, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will flush the clutch system and rebuild the clutch master cylinder. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2016-333.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2016420.
