On certain vehicles, the pinch bolt of the upper steering shaft may not have been tightened to the proper specification. This could lead to a loss of the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and front axle wheels, resulting in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Daimler Trucks North America authorized service facilities will inspect and ensure proper torque of the upper steering shaft pinch bolt. Note: In the interim, owners are advised to stop driving their vehicles until they have been inspected.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2017489.
