Transport Canada carries this recall as 2019252, dated 28 May 2019. The American register carries the same defect as campaign 22V635, dated 19 August 2022. They are the same defect because the manufacturer filed both under one internal campaign code, I1902.

The two registers are 1,179 days apart: the Canadian entry is dated first, the American one second.

These are the dates each register records against its own notice. They are separate administrative acts in two countries, recorded by two authorities under two sets of rules, and this page does not claim that one caused the other or that owners in either country were contacted on those days. What it shows is that the same manufacturer campaign reached the two registers on different dates.

Read the American notice 22V635, including every earlier version of its wording this site holds. The Canadian register explains why the manufacturer code is published there and what that makes possible. Canada and America sets every matched pair side by side.

Indian Motorcycle CHIEF in the other registers

This site holds seven national and European registers. Indian Motorcycle CHIEF is named on 6 British notices, 7 European and 1 Israeli. Those are separate campaigns, filed with separate authorities on their own schedules.

Nothing here says any of these is this notice in another country. A model recalled in one country is often recalled in another, in different words and at a different time, and the authorities do not cross-reference each other. Reading them together is the reason this site holds more than one register.

Issue:
On certain motorcycles, a poor electrical connection at the Vehicle Control Module (VCM) could lead to an intermittent or total loss of forward lighting. Note: If this happens, the high beam indicator on the gauge cluster will flash.

Safety Risk:
A loss of lighting would reduce visibility and could increase the risk of a crash.

Corrective Actions:
The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to ensure the headlight is working properly. A second letter will be sent to owners once repair parts are available.

The wording above is the department's own, as it stood in the monthly file this site last read. Vehicle counts are the sum of the counts published for each make and model the recall covers. To act on a recall, use the official notice: Transport Canada recall 2019252.

Reading this against the source

This page is what Transport Canada published in the Vehicle Recalls Database, kept as it was read. The authority publishes only its current wording; if a notice is rewritten, the earlier version disappears there and is kept here. The whole register is at /canada, and how the reading is done is set out in the method.

What the words on this notice mean — the system it is filed under, and what the filing type says about who found the fault.

This register keeps an index of its own for every maker and every year it holds: Canadian recalls on a Indian Motorcycle: 30 in the register, and 594 Canadian vehicle recalls filed in 2019.
